Session: Does ovarian cancer start in the fallopian tubes? Does this affect screening and prevention?

This 90-minute concurrent session presents emerging information about hereditary ovarian cancer. New research
suggests that ovarian cancer in BRCA carriers may start in the fallopian tubes. Dr. Kauff will discuss:

• the latest research and expert opinions on whether all or most hereditary ovarian cancer begins in the fallopian tubes
• approaches to ovarian cancer screening based on these findings
• options for lowering the risk for ovarian cancer in high-risk women
• benefits and risks of surgical removal of the fallopian tubes only (salpingectomy)
• importance of consulting with gynecologic-oncologist for preventive surgery and importance of
  following standard-of-care guidelines for serial sectioning of the fallopian tubes following surgery
